About Your Surgeon

Mr. Patel is a highly respected and experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist who performs state-of-the-art and technologically advanced corneal, cataract and lens-based surgery. 


He is a highly skilled micro-surgeon and one of only a handful of ophthalmic surgeons in the region that specialises in corneal transplant surgery. He performs all forms of lamellar corneal surgery including DMEK.


He is an expert on the surgical and medical management of disorders related to the front and middle parts of the eye.  He receives referrals from all over the UK and often from overseas clinicians.


He has led the Corneal, Anterior segment, and Cataract service for The South Tees University Foundation Trust since his appointment in September 2016. He runs a busy NHS practice at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Here he looks after both adult and paediatric patients with highly complex  that affect the front of the eye.


Mr. Patel has undergone specialist training at internationally renowned hospitals in London including Moorfields Eye Hospital followed by advanced fellowship training at The Western Eye Hospital, Marylebone. 


He offers private consultations and treatments at facilities in Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees, and Middlesbrough.
